Venison offers lean protein
The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources expects 175,000 deer to be harvested during this fall's hunting season.
These deer can provide more than good trophies, but also a healthy meal.

Venison packs a high protein punch with very little fat. Four ounces
of venison contains 68.5 percent of the daily value for protein. That same four ounces only contains 179 calories and 1.4 grams of saturated fat. Those with iron deficiencies can turn to deer for a high source of iron as well.
The high vitamin and mineral content found in venison also helps combat ailments such as heart disease and migraines.
Venison can be served as jerky or steaks. It can also be used in a variety of dishes such as lasagna or stew.
